Intro to Katazome (Rice Paste resist) & Indigo Dyeing - Woolloongabba Station Brisbane

Learn the art of Katazome in this interactive workshop. Discover the ancient Japanese technique of stencil dyeing and create beautiful fabric pieces to take home. Immerse yourself in the world of Katazome as you learn the basics, from fabric preparation to using stencils and applying resist paste. You'll also have the opportunity to dye your fabric in a natural indigo vat.

Don't worry if you're new to Katazome.  This workshop is designed for beginners. Our experienced instructor will guide you through each step, ensuring you feel confident and inspired. You'll be amazed at how quickly you pick up the techniques and start creating your own unique designs.

All the necessary materials will be provided, including dye materials and select a scarf, tea towels (2), or a linen bag for you to choose from. If you'd like to bring an additional item, small lightweight cotton or natural fabrics work best.

During the workshop, you'll have access to stencils that will help you create intricate patterns and designs. The combination of dyeing and printmaking techniques will open up a world of creativity and self-expression.

By the end of the class, you'll have gained a solid foundation in Katazome and created your own hand-dyed fabric piece. This workshop offers a truly transformative experience, allowing you to discover the beauty and artistry of traditional Japanese dyeing. We keep things simple and paperless!
Once you book, you’ll receive a confirmation email, and closer to the workshop (around 3 days prior), we’ll send you a reminder email and a text message with all the important details—what to bring, timing, location, and any last-minute tips.
There's no need for a printed ticket. Your name (and the number of guests you've booked for) will be on our guest list at check-in.

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations made 14 days or more before the scheduled workshop will receive a full refund.
Cancellations made 7 to 13 days prior will receive a 50% refund.
Unfortunately, no refunds can be given for cancellations made within 7 days of the workshop.
These policies are in place to help ensure the smooth running of our workshops and services. As a small business, we’re unable to make exceptions to these timeframes.
