Danish Cord Workshops

Danish cord is a traditional paper cord developed in Denmark and became a defining feature of Scandinavian furniture during the 1940s and 1950s. Originally introduced as an alternative to natural fibres during World War II.  Danish Cord provides exceptional strength, durability, timeless style comfort and natural beauty to furniture.

Join us for a relaxing, hands-on Danish Cord Workshop and discover the traditional weaving techniques used to create beautiful, functional furniture using sustainable paper cord.

This workshop is all about mindfulness, rhythm, pattern and the satisfaction of making something with your own hands. You don’t need to think of yourself as creative or artistic — just come along ready to learn, experiment and enjoy the process.

In this small-group workshop, you’ll receive hands-on guidance from Danish Cord weaver Suzanne Sinclair as you learn the fundamentals of weaving a stool top. You’ll explore the techniques, patterns and practical skills needed to achieve a strong, professionally finished result.

Perfect for complete beginners, as well as woodworkers, furniture makers or intermediate weavers wanting to add Danish Cord weaving to their skill set. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with new skills, plenty of inspiration and your own finished woven stool.

This workshop is for you if:

  • You’ve always wanted to learn Danish Cord weaving but don’t know where to start.

  • You enjoy woodworking, furniture making or hands-on crafts and want to learn a new skill.

  • You’re looking for a creative, relaxing and mindful way to spend the day.

  • You love the idea of slowing down, working with your hands and experiencing the satisfaction of a job well done.

All materials are included. If you already have Danish Cord in colours such as black, coffee, natural/beige or light blue that you’d like to experiment with, you’re welcome to bring it along.

BOOKINGS ARE ESSENTIAL. Class sizes are deliberately kept small to allow plenty of individual tuition, and places are limited.
