To choose your adhesive PVC, you'll need to consider these 2 dimensions: height and length. The height is simply the height that you wish your lampshade to be. The length can be calculated using this formula:
FORMULA : Lampshade diameter X 3.14 + 1.5 = Length of PVC
For example, if your lampshade diameter is 30cm, your adhesive PVC should be 95.7cm long (= 30 x 3.14 +1.5 = 95.7cm).
Fabrics
Recommended
Type - Cotton, linen, cotton drill, linen/cotton blends, blend polyester cotton.
Weight – Light to medium weight.
Weave – Tight weave over loose weave. Loose weave fabrics tend to fray more and they don’t hold their form well.
Avoid these fabrics
Heavy upholstery fabrics - too heavy and thick. Hard to turn over the rings. Heavier Fabrics is reduced light and are stiffer.
Indoor/Outdoor Polyester material.
Fabrics with textured finishes e.g. embroidered fabrics
embossed doubled sided fabrics
Silk or light fabrics (rayon) - easy to get air bubbles, not as structured
Very loose weave fabrics which fray easily
Considerations regarding patterns that could be hard to match
Design considerations
Main 'focus' image should be the front of the shade
Some designs/patterns don't have an up or a down side (inter-changeable design) . Other designs have a clear direction of top-to- bottom design. Your 'connection' ring needs to be placed appropriately to ensure your design is the right way up.
Two options : Pendant/ceiling & Shade for base. Pendant (or Ceiling) Shade has the connection ring at the top of the shade. A Lampshade for a Base has the connection ring at the bottom of the shade. Both options ‘hide’ the connection inside the ring set. Therefore the type of shade you require will reflect on the location of your 'connection' ring.
